Abi's Turns sixty

This past Saturday we celebrated Abi's birthday. Lots of friends, lots of fun to celebrate her sixtieth birthday.

At the Monster Jam

This past Saturday, Jennifer and I took Logan and Sydney to the Monster Jam at the Reliant Stadium.  This was an early birthday present for Logan, since he loves all things that are car related.  On a hunch, I bought some over-the-ear ear muffs for the kids and some ear plugs for Jennifer and myself.  I am so glad I did because it was much louder than I expected.  

Logan loved it, he was on the edge of his seat just taking it all in.  I think he got a real kick from seeing the real version of "Monster Mutt", a monster truck that he has a toy version of.  I thought Sydney would have gotten bored, but she enjoyed herself as well - big surprise.

New Year's fireworks?

What began as an attempt by our neighbor at a New Year's Firework show, the show got out of hand.  They managed to catch the field behind their home on fire and with the help of a strong breeze, the fire quickly went out of control.  The fire department was called and was able to contain the fire, with the help of the home owners toting garden hoses.  Sydney was freaking-out, I think in her mind the world was ending.  The boys were just wide-eyed and speechless as they watched the commotion. In the end, no one was hurt, all the homes were kept safe but the fire burned a good 7-10 acres of grass in the field behind the homes.

One of my neighbors walked up to me later, as the last embers of the fire were being smothered and said,  "I don't think this will be a good tradition."  I agreed. ;-)

New Year's eve dinner

A tradition that we started a few years ago, is to go out to eat for new year's dinner.  For this new year, we visited "Atami Steak and Sushi", a great Japanese Restaurant in Katy, Texas.  The place was recommended by a neighbor and although we did not know what to expect, we all had fun with the "Benihana" type dinner and a show.
